Violin is a String musical instrument. It is commonly used in carnatic as well as in western music. It consits of four strings. Actually by origin its a Western musical instrument and it has been introduced to Carnatic music by Sri Baluswamy Dikshitar, brother of Sri Muttuswamy Dikshitar. The usage of violin in western as well as in carnatic(eastern) music depends up on its string turning. Classical violin as well as electrical violin are available now. The violin is played using a bow (a stick with horse hair tugged between both ends). To play violin in carnatic style, 1st place the scroll of violin on the right anklet (sitting cross-legged) and the body of violin over the left shoulder.
