[15 th Melakartha Ragam]
Singing of this ragam evokes shantha (peace) rasa (rasam) to the listeners. When a song contains all these notes, or if that songs root lies in these notes then we can say that its based on this (MayamalavaGowla ) ragam. Sri Purandara Dasa, who is considered as the father of Carnatic music has introduced mayamalavagowla ragam as the basic scale for music instructions. The kriti "Deva deva kalayamithy " composed by Swathi Thirunal, is based on this ragam.
