Actually there are 2 types of music in India.
one is HINDUSTANI Music, which is in North part of India and the other is
CARNATIC Music, which is in South part of India.Basically both are same, but in
HINDUSTANI ,its called so because of the influence of Mugal,Persian etc the style of music has change a slight.
But in Carnatic ,there is not like that,so we can say its pure. Both HINDUSTANI and CARNATIC music having Raga's ,but in different name for example in Carnatic ,"Dhera Shankarabharanam" ie 29 th Melakartha raga, we call this same raga in HINDUSTANI as
"Bilava".Both having same notes(ie swaras) in its arohana and avarohana.
The Orgin of music ,came in older ages, its belived that these swaras came from "Omkara".Then came the saptha swaras(ie. Sa , Re , Ga ,Ma , Pa , Dha , Ni ).
Then in 15 th Century AD,some important contributions are made by Saint
Purandhardas and in later 18 th Century ,the great 3 people , "Thyagaraja ",,.
" Muthuswami Deekhitar "and " Shyama Shastri " has contributed a lot to Carnatic music.
